Distinguished Conduct Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in an attack. He handled his platoon with great skill after his platoon commander became a casualty. When his platoon was held up by an enemy machine gun post he got the assistance of a tank and led his platoon against the post, capturing ten of the enemy and two machine guns, and enabling the line to advance. His determined leadership, and initiative were of great value.'
