'At WESTHOEK RIDGE during operations on 28th October, 1917, and 4th November, 1917 inclusive. This N.C.O. was in charge of Battalion Cooks who were cooking in the forward area. The majority of the personnel were gassed and evacuated, and although badly gassed himself, GOODWIN stuck to his post and under his directions and personal supervision the men in the front line were supplied with hot food. The Cook house during the whole time was under shell fire both gas and H.E. shell.'
