Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the attack on VILLE-SUR-ANCRE near ALBERT on the morning of 19th May, 1918. This N.C.O. during the operation acted as Company Lewis Gun N.C.O., and showed great skill and judgment in organising the Lewis Guns. During the advance the whole of one gun crew became casualties. GOULD himself took charge of the Gun, and with dash and coolness did great execution among the enemy by his hip-firing. On reaching the objective he pushed out Lewis guns to cover the consolidation. After passing through the second objective he captured from the enemy a Lewis Gun which they had been using against us. During the day his Lewis Gun work dispersed parties of the enemy who came into sight. His bravery throughout the engagement was a fine example to all the men of his Company.'
