Military Medal 'During the operations of 29th and 30th September and 1st October this N.C.O. displayed a keenness and initiative of a very high standard. At a critical stage of the advance he was sent forward to obtain touch with the enemy and gain information as to the location of the flanking unit. In face of very heavy artillery and machine gun fire he advanced and returned with full information as to the situation, as a result of which his company was able to advance about 1000 yards. His courage and resource throughout the whole operations set a fine example to the men.'
