Distinguished Conduct Medal 'From 28 February to 16 September 1918, he has carried out the duties of company runner, and by his courage and devotion to duty has been of great assistance to the company commander. On several occasions he has taken urgent despatches to section officers through enemy barrages. In the operations in August and September, he was constantly running between the line and headquarters, and was mainly responsible for the good communications existing between sections and headquarters.'
