Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 2 August 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 8 August 1916.

Marched in to 15th Training Bn, Codford, England, 21 August 1916. Found guilty, 20 December 1916, of breaking away from Parade without permission, and failure to return: awarded 3 days' Field Punishment No 2.

Proceeded overseas to France, 14 May 1917; taken on strength, 58th Bn, 28 May 1917.

On leave to United Kingdom, 4 August 1918; rejoined unit from leave, 1 September 1919. Found guilty, 10 September 1918, of being absent without leave in London, 6 am, 21 August, to 6 am, 27 August 1918: awarded 14 days' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeited 20 days' pay.

Admitted to 15th Australian Field Ambulance, 21 September 1918 (injured right foot); transferred to 53rd Casualty Clearing Station, 22 September 1918; to Ambulance train No 42, 25 September 1918, and admitted to No 2 General Hospital, Havre, 26 September 1918; to Convalescent Depot, 14 October 1918; discharged to Base Depot, 14 November 1918; rejoined unit, 2 December 1918.

Marched out to England for return to Australia, 1 April 1919.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Orontes', 15 May 1919; disembarked Melbourne, 28 June 1919; discharged, 14 August 1919.
