Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He took command of his platoon during the advance, and after hard fighting succeeded in taking the enemy strong post. He finally captured 200 yards of the enemy trench, when under great difficulty he established a strong post, which he held until relieved.'
