Military Medal 'During an attack near VERMAND North West of ST. QUENTIN on 11th September, 1918, this man showed splendid initiative. With his Lewis Gun he worked forward and engaged 2 enemy Machine Guns which were holding up his platoon, and succeeded in silencing the guns, thus allowing his platoon to advance and capture the guns. His splendid courage at a critical period did much to ensure the success of the operation.'
