Admitted to 7th Field Ambulance, 16 October 1915 (measles); transferred to 16th Casualty Clearing, 16 October 1916, and thence to Mudros; to Alexandria, 20 October 1915, and admitted to 21st General Hospital; to Ras el Tin Convalescent Home, 27 December 1915; to Australian Overseas Base, 28 January 1916; rejoined Bn, Tel el Kebir, 5 February 1916.

Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 15 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 21 March 1916.

Wounded in action, 29 July 1916 (gun shot wound, body: severe), and admitted to 2nd Field Ambulance; transferred same day to 4th Casualty Clearing Station, and then to Ambulance Train; admitted to 13th General Hospital, Boulogne, 31 July 1916; transferred to England, 31 July 1916, and admitted to Kitchener Military Hospital, Brighton; transferred to 1st Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield (date not recorded); discharged to No 1 Command Depot, 21 August 1916; granted furlough, 24 August 1916.
