'During a raid on the enemy position in CELTIC WOOD east of YPRES on the morning of 9 October 1917, Pte. GREEN displayed great gallantry and courage during the hand to hand fighting his courage and determination were especially noticeable. After the signal to retire had been give Pte. GREEN remained behind and carried his platoon Sgt. who had been wounded to safety, under heavy artillery and machine gun fire.'
