Military Medal 'At POLYGON WOOD near HOOGE on the 29/30th September 1917 No. 3125 Private G.W. GREENSHIELDS showed great gallantry and devotion to duty whilst acting as a stretcher bearer. he assisted to carry men through an intense enemy barrage and was always ready and cheerful when needed. By his courage and bravery the wounded were taken very quickly from the front line to the Regimental Aid Post. In three cases he was responsible for saving mens lives, by his attention and the rapidity with which he hot them to the Medical Officer.'
