Distinguished Conduct Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On 14 July at Musellabeh Salient, when all communications with regimental headquarters were cut by the enemy bombardment before the attack, he was sent out with another signaller to repair the line. The enemy then attacked and his assistant was wounded. Baldwin helped him to a place of safety, pursued by the enemy. He then reported back to the trench regimental headquarters had been forced back to, and did excellent work re-establishing communications.'
