War service: Egypt, Western Front Found guilty, 11 February 1916, of being absent without leave from Tattoo, 30 January, until apprehended by Military Police in Cairo about 10 pm, 4 February 1916: awarded 5 days' detention and forfeited 6 days' pay under royal warrant. Found guilty, 10 March 1916, of being absent without leave in that he was absent from all parades from 3-10 March 1916, a period of 168 hours: awarded 168 hours' Field Punishment No 2. Transferred to 59th Bn, 26 March 1916; taken on strength, Ferry Post, 3 April 1916. Transferred to 60th Bn, and taken on strength, Ferry Post, 4 April 1916. Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 18 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 29 June 1916. Reported missing in Action, 19 July 1916.
