Military Medal 'During the operation of 11th August 1918, against RAINECOURT, East of AMIENS, this man displayed exceptional gallantry and ability in handling his Lewis Gun. When the left flank of his company was held up he worked his gun to the flank of the enemy position and bringing enfilade fire to bear, wiped out the enemy garrison. In carrying out this task he crawled with his gun a distance of 20 yards in full view of the enemy and in the face of intense enemy machine gun fire and sniping, in order to gain a position of cover. His courageous effort removed an obstacle which otherwise would have undoubtedly caused heavy casualties to his Company.'
