Wounded in action, 6 August 1916; admitted to 14th Stationary Hospital, Boulogne, 8 August 1916 (shell shock); transferred to England, 9 August 1916, and admitted to Brook War Hospital, Woolich, 10 August 1916 (moderately severe); transferred to Springfield War Hospital, Upper Tooting, 29 September 1916; to No. 1 Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 28 October 1916; discharged to furlough, 4 November 1916, to report to Command Depot, Weymouth, 20 November 1916.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Ulysses', 13 February 1917; discharged, 10 May 1917.
