Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and initiative during the attack north of Peronne, 2 September, 1918. When all the officers became casualties, the company was subjected to very heavy artillery and machine gun fire. This warrant officer took charge, rallied the men under trying conditions and came into action on the left flank with his men well under control.'
