'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during operations 30th August - 5th September 1918. On night 3rd/4th September 1918 whilst the roads to PERONNE were subjected to very heavy shell fire he perservered in bringing his team and limber by means of a track which he had constructed across difficult country and although badly shaken eventually succeeded in delivering Battalion rations at the Ration Point. Later, on the morning of the 4th September 1918 he volunteered and again delivered rations at this point. His cheerfulness and utter disregard of personal safety was most exemplary.'
