Military Medal 'For gallantry and devotion to duty during the operations at VILLERS BRETONNEUX commencing on 8th August and including MONT ST. QUENTIN. This N.C.O. had charge of 2 guns at MONT ST. QUENTIN on 28th August 1918, he skilfully kept the teams together and succeeded in emplacing both guns. During a subsequent hostile counter attack he directed the fire of the mortars until the ammunition was exhausted. He then manned the position with rifles and continued firing until the counter attack was beaten off. He displayed considerable initiative and good judgment at a critical moment. His unfailing cheerfulness and courage during the operations from 8th August onwards greatly inspired the men under him.'
