Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry on 4th October, 1917, at BROODSEINDE. This man who was acting as a Company Signaller had his apparatus destroyed by the enemy barrage before zero, but maintained communication by running, he also repaired the line from Battalion Headquarters, to Brigade forward station on several occasions under heavy enemy shell fire. Later he acted as a guide to the relieving Battalion, and on account of heavy casualties amongst the runners was on duty for 48 hours. Without sleep. His work was of the highest order, displaying great gallantry and devotion to duty.'
