Military Medal

'On 4th October 1917, for conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty in action East of YPRES. He acted as runner throughout the operation and was continuously at work in a most difficult part of the line where the enemy fire was very heavy. In addition to carrying messages, this man, on various occasions, assisted stretcher bearers and wounded men. His contempt of danger and the willing manner in which he performed all his duties, were most marked and were a valuable example to all.'
