'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During an attack by our troops this N.C.O. displayed great gallantry in organizing company Lewis gun crews under heavy fire. He succeeded in getting his four teams up to the final objective, and personally placed each gun in position, and enabled a party to go forward and capture an enemy machine gun. He has rendered valuable services on patrol, and has obtained most useful information.'
