War service: Egypt, Gallipoli, Western Front Disembarked Alexandria from Mudros, 9 January 1916 (general Gallipoli evacuation). Found guilty, 19 February 1916, of being absent without leave, 12.00 pm, 17 February, to 4.00 pm, 18 February 1916: awarded 7 days' Field Punishment No 2. Embarked Alexandria and proceeded to join the British Expeditionary Force, 17 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 23 March 1916. Admitted to 44th Casualty Clearing Station, 3 August 1916 (gun shot wound, chest); transferred to 1st Stationary Hospital, Rouen, 6 August 1916. Proceeded to England on HS 'St. Andrew', 10 August 1916. Admitted to 3rd Southern General Hospital, Oxford, 5 September 1916; transferred to 1st Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 5 September 1916; discharged to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 16 September 1916; taken on strength of No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 12 December 1916; marched into No 2 Command Depot from Sidney Hall Hospital, 19 February 1917.
