Military Medal 'During the attack on the vicinity of POLYGON WOOD on the 20th/21st September, 1917, L.Cpl HAGAN was in charge of a party engaged in digging communications in the immediate vicinity of the front line. Despite continuous shelling during the greater part of the 21st he struck to his job setting a splendid example to the men under him with good working results. About the time the job was finished the enemy shelled it heavily and attempted to counter-attack. As there were no Infantry manning the strong point and trenches in thevicinity HAGAN gathered his men together and placed them in position for defence. Throughout the whole day and during the bombardment which lasted 3 hours he displayed great coolness and energy and set a splendid example to the men under him.'
