Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and daring during operations near WYTSCHAETE August 1 - 16 1917 as a Scout. He displayed indefatigable energy and fearlessness in leading patrols into enemy country and gained valuable information. He volunteered in addition as a Sniper and remained for 2 days in a shell hole in No Man's Land until he had effectively gained ......... over enemy snipers who were causing great concern to the front line troops. He is very consistent in his work and sets a fine example.'
