Migrated to Australia in 1911. War service: Western Front Embarked Melbourne, 10 May 1917; found guilty, at sea, 25 May 1917, of disobedience of ship's Standing Orders in that he used a fire bucket for the purpose of washing down a troop deck: admonished; disembarked Plymouth, England, 28 July 1917, and marched in to 8th Training Bn, Hurdcott. Marched in to Maschine Gun Training Depot, Grantham, 15 October 1917. Married Nelly Mabel HOLMES, spinster, aged 21, Parish Church (Anglican) of Spittlegate, Grantham, 27 February 1918. Proceeded overseas to France, 9 April 1918; taken on strength, 5th Machine Gun Bn, in the field, 17 April 1918. On leave to United Kingdom, 14 October 1918; rejoined Bn from leave, 30 October 1918. Marched out to Australian Corps Central School, 6 January 1919; rejoined Bn from Central School, 9 March 1919. Marched out to England, 9 March 1919. Granted leave with pay and subsistence, 9 April-25 September 1919 (Non Military Employment: engineering, attending British Thomson Houston & Co Ltd, Rugby).
