Embarked Melbourne on HMAT 'Euripides', 4 April 1916; disembarked Suez, 12 May 1916.

Admitted to 17th General Hospital, Alexandria, 8 May 1916 (venereal disease); discharged to duty, 16 June 1916.

Embarked Alexandria on HMT 'Arcadia' and proceeded to join the British Expeditionary Force, 29 July 1916; marched into 2nd Training Bn, Perham Downs, 10 August 1916. Proceeded overseas to France, 29 August 1916; marched into 1st Australian Divisional Base Depot, Etaples, 30 August 1916; moved into the field, 16 September 1916; taken on strength of 7th Bn, 17 September 1916.

Found guilty of being absent without leave from billet at Tattoo, 16 October 1916: awarded 7 days' Field Punishment No 2, 20 October 1916.

Admitted to 15th Field Ambulance, 4 November 1916 (gun shot wound, arm and left hip); transferred to 38th Casualty Clearing Station, 4 November 1916; to 5th General Hospital, Rouen, 6 November 1916. Embarked Havre on HS 'Formosa' and proceeded to England for further treatment, 16 November 1916; admitted to 4th Southern General Hospital, Plymouth, 18 November 1916 (shrapnel wound, right side).

Found guilty at Plymouth, 19 December 1916, of (1) drunkenness whilst in hospital, (2) using obscene language to the Military Police, and (3) being absent without leave from hospital, 4.00 pm, 19 December, to 8.25 pm, 19 December 1916, (4) breaking out of hospital, and (5) being absent without leave, 6.00 pm, 29 December, to 7.45 pm, 29 December 1916: awarded 6 days' detention, 9 January 1917; transferred to Devonport Military Hospital, 1 January 1917; discharged to No 1 Command Depot, Perham Downs, 9 January 1917; moved out from depot, 13 January 1917; marched into No 4 Command Depot, Wareham, 14 February 1917; marched into No 3 Command Depot, Hurdcott, 29 March 1917; classified B2a, 1 April 1917; marched into No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 14 April 1917.

Commenced return to Australia on board HS 'A.14', 21 July 1917; disembarked from HMAT 'Euripides', Melbourne, 18 September 1917. Discharged on account of being medically unfit for continued service, 19 March 1918.
