War service: Egypt, Western Front Embarked Sydney on HMAS 'Star of Victoria', 30 March 1916. Admitted to No 2 Australian Stationary Hospital, Tel-el-Kebir, 24 May 1916 (diarrhoea). Embarked Alexandria on HMT 'Ionian' and proceeded to join the British Expeditionary Force, 7 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 14 June 1916; to be Acting Corporal, Etaples, 7 June 1916; taken on strength of 13th Bn, 25 August 1916; rank reverts to Private, 25 August 1916. Wounded in action, 30 August 1916; admitted 3rd Canadian General Hospital, 1 September 1916 (fractured right arm; shrapnel wound, left ankle). Embarked Boulogne on HS 'Newhaven' and proceeded to England for further treatment, 2 September 1916; admitted to 2nd East General Hospital, Brighton, 2 September 1916. Died at 2nd East General Hospital, 20 September 1916 (fractured humerous; septicemia resulting from amputation). Buried at Welford Road Cemetery, Leicester, 23 September 1916.
