Found guilty of being absent without leave from midnight, 3 November-6am, 5 November 1916: awarded forfeiture of 7 days' pay, 8 November 1916. Proceeded overseas to France from Southampton, 30 November 1916.

Sustained lacerations of the foot, 28 February 1917; admitted to hospital, 1 March 1917. Rejoined unit and appointed Lance Corporal, 20 March 1917.

Wounded in action, 26 March 1917. Transferred to England on board the 'Cambria', 31 March 1917. Tranferred to No. 2 Convalescent Depot, Weymouth, 3 May 1917. Proceeded to France from Southampton, 16 July 1917; rejoined unit in the field, 5 August 1917.

Appointed Temporary Corporal, 8 October 1917. Admitted to hospital sick (trench fever) and reverted to Lance Corporal, 12 October 1917. Transferred to England and admitted to Reading War Hospital, 24 October 1917; transferred to 1st Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 4 January 1918. Proceeded overseas to France, 7 March 1918; rejoined unit, 13 March 1918.

Admitted to Red Cross Hospital, Huntingdon, 18 July 1918 (not yet diagnosed); discharged to No. 1 Convalescent Depot, Sutton Veny, Wiltshire, 29 July 1918. Proceeded overseas to France, 6 September 1918; transferred to Australian General Base Depot, Rouelles, 8 September 1918. Rejoined Bn in the field, 12 September 1918.

Proceeded to England to begin return to Australia, 7 April 1919. Began return voyage on board 'Nestor', 20 May 1919; disembarked Sydney, 4 July 1919. Discharged, 20 August 1919.
