Embarked Fremantle on HMAT 'Berrima', 26 December 1916; disembarked Devonport, 16 February 1917; marched into 3rd Training Bn, 18 February 1917. Proceeded to France through Folkestone, 14 May 1917; taken on strength of 1st Australian Divisional Base Depot, Etaples, 15 May 1917; struck off strength, 28 May 1917; taken on strength of 11th Bn, 28 May 1917.

Admitted to 6th Australian Field Ambulance, 20 September 1917; transferred to 9th General Hospital, Rouen, 22 September 1917. Embarked Rouen on HS 'Essequibo' and proceeded to England for further treatment, 25 September 1917; admitted to Bath War Hospital, 26 September 1917 (abrasion, left hand); transferred to 1st Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 27 October 1917; discharged on furlough, 12 December 1917.

Found guilty at Sutton Veny, 29 December 1917, of being absent without leave, 3.30 pm, 26 December, to 12.00 pm, 28 December 1917: awarded 4 days' confinement to camp; forfeited total of 3 days' pay.

Admitted to Sutton Veny Military Hospital, 3 January 1918; admitted to Convalescent Depot, Sutton Veny, 11 January 1918; discharged to Longbridge Overseas Training Brigade, Deverill, 15 January 1918.

Proceeded to France through Southampton, 1 February 1918; marched into Australian Infantry Base Depot, Havre, 2 February 1918; moved into the field, 4 February 1918; rejoined unit from hospital, 6 February 1918.
