Military Medal 'This N.C.O. was in charge of Company Lewis Guns during operation in JEANCOURT SECTOR on morning. Throughout the advance he showed wonderful judgment, coolness and bravery in the tactical handling of the guns. On several occasions he silenced enemy machine guns when they appeared to have the upper hand, and was responsible by his capable manoeuvring of his Company Lewis Guns, in assisting the Company to advance and reach the objective with exceptionally light casualties. On reaching the final objective he at once got captured machine guns into action to assist in the defence. At all times he showed exceptional gallantry and devotion to duty, and his initiative is worthy of award.'
