Military Medal 'During operations at VILLERS BRETONNEUX from 29th April, 1916, to 4th May, 1916, for gallantry and devotion to duty. He was in charge of ration and ammunition parties, and on several occasions when the parties were subjected to heavy enemy artillery fire, he displayed fine organisation and initiative in getting them into safety, thus stopping casualties, and ensuring the safe delivery of the rations and ammunition.' Second description reads: 'Private HAMLIN displayed conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty between 5th and 15th August, 1916, at POZIERES. This soldier did excellent work in building and re building machine gun positions under very heavy shell fire, thereby assisting his Officer to keep the guns in action.'
