Military Medal 'Near GLENCORE WOOD, East of Hooge, on afternoon 21.9.17. Private HANBY showed great courage and determination. When near GLENCORSE WOOD and returning with a wounded man, a shell burst immediately behind his squad, wounding one of his comrades, and precipitating all on to the ground. While one bearer went for assistance to RELAY POST, Private HANBY proceeded to dress his comrade's wound. Another shell bursting near blew Private HANBY into a shell hole. Recovering his feet, this private continued to attend his wounded comrade. he remained with the wounded patient and his comrade, despite continued shell fire until bearer parties arrived.'
