Embarked Alexandria and proceeded to join the British Expeditionary Force, 15 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 21 March 1916; temporarily attached to 7th Brigade Headquarters, 1 July 1916. Transferred to 7th Brigade Headquarters, 11 September 1916; attached to 25th Bn pending transfer, 26 October 1916; taken on strength of 25th Bn, 1 November 1916; detached for duty with 7th Brigade Headquarters, 16 January 1917; to be Temporary Corporal, 1 September 1917; proceeded on leave to England, 26 September 1918. Transferred to 26th Bn, 12 October 1918; proceeded on leave to England, 4 December 1918; rejoined 7th Brigade detachment from leave, 18 December 1918; rejoined unit from detachment to 7th Brigade, 17 March 1919; granted extended leave, 20 March 1919. Embarked Havre and proceeded to England, 24 March 1919; disembarked Southampton, 25 March 1919; marched into Australian Supply Corps Training Depot, Parkhouse, 26 March 1919; granted leave with pay to attend Bradford Technical College for wool classing course, 1 April 1919. Transferred to 26th Bn on expiration of leave, 1 June 1919; reported to Australian Imperial Force Headquarters, London, 4 June 1919; marched into No 2 Group, Sutton Veny, 5 June 1919.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Demosthenes', 26 July 1919; disembarked Sydney, 19 September 1919, for onward travel to 1st Military District. Discharged Brisbane, 14 December 1919.
