'During the several advances from September 17th to 20th 1918 near Le VERGIEUR, Private HANKIN was employed in assisting the Officer responsible for reconnoitring and reporting on the forward roads in the captured territory. he very materially assisted in making it possible to organise and distribute the men of his Company employed on repair work. His efforts were untiring and by intelligent and fearless work, often under severe hostile shell fire he kept communication between the reconnoitring Officer and Company Headquarters permitting urgent work to be accomplished with a minimum of waste of time.'
