'On the night of the 12th/13th August, 1918, near BRAY-Sur-SOMME, during an attack by our troops the enemy put down a heavy barrage between the front line and Battalion Headquarters cutting the wires. private HANNA who was a Battalion runner readily undertook the risk of Battalion runner readily undertook the risk of working through the hostile shell fire and safely delivered important messages. From 10th to 18th August this runner also worked over badly shelled areas to gain touch with flank units and acted as guide to various parties. heavy casualties occurred amongst the runner and much extra work fell on Private HANNA, but he was always cheerful and willing.'
