Proceeded overseas to France, 14 November 1917; taken on strength, 39th Bn, in the field, 23 November 1917. Wounded in action, 5 April 1918; remained at duty. Wounded in action (second occasion), 31 July 1918 (gun shot wound, right arm), and admitted to 10th Australian Field Ambulance, and transferred to 47th Casualty Clearing Station; to Ambulance Train No 20, 2 August 1918, and admitted to 3rd General Hospital, Le Treport, 3 August 1918; transferred to England, 5 August 1918, and admitted to 1st Southern General Hospital, Birmingham, 6 August 1918; transferred to 1st Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 31 August 1918; discharged to Littlemoor Camp, Weymouth, 21 September 1918.
