War service: Western Front Embarked Melbourne, 4 August 1917; disembarked Glasgow, 2 October 1917; marched into 2nd Training Bn, Durrington, 3 October 1917. Found guilty at Warminster, 18 February 1918, of neglecting to obey an order, 14 February 1918: awarded 5 days' confinement to camp; detached On Command to 1st Training Bn Signals School, 26 February 1918. Proceeded to France through Folkestone, 22 July 1918; marched into Australian Infantry Base Depot, Havre, 24 July 1918; moved into the field, 26 July 1918; taken on strength of 6th Bn, 28 July 1918. Admitted to 2nd Australian Field Ambulance, 25 January 1919, and transferred to 55th Casualty Clearing Station (venereal disease); to 7th General Hospital, 29 January 1919.
