Military Medal 'During a counter-attack by his Battalion on a strong enemy position South of VILLERS-BRETONNEUX on night 24th/25th April 1918 this man, who is a Lewis Gunner, when his Section Commander and remainder of the team became casualties, carried the gun forward, using it with good effect against the enemy although subjected to heavy rifle and machine gun fire. When his gun was put out of action, he at once made good the damaged parts and brought his gun into action again, thus greatly assisting in the advance of his Company. His coolness and resourcefulness under heavy fire were a splendid example to all about him.'
