'For courageous conduct on 6th November, 1917 during operations at PASSCHENDAELE, East of YPRES. When his platoon had lost its Officer and all N.C.O.s and was still suffering severely from an intense enemy barrage, Private HARRIS assumed control, and by his indifference to danger and his splendid example he encouraged all to work vigourously on the improvement of their position.'
