Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When his company commander was killed on the way to the assembly position, he led his men through a heavy enemy barrage and got them all into position. During the attack, though wounded, he showed great determination and courage, and contributed largely to the success gained by the company.'
