Admitted to 25th Stationary Hospital, Rouen, 6 January 1917 (mumps); rejoined unit, 8 April 1917.

To England on leave, 9 September 1917; rejoined unit from leave, 26 September 1917.

Wounded in action, Belgium, 7 October 1917, and admitted to 3rd Australian Field Ambulance (gun shot wound, chest, penetrating); transferred to England, 20 November 1917, and admitted to 4th Southern General Hospital, Plymouth, 21 November 1917; to No 1 Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 14 February 1918; discharged to No 2 Command Depot, 20 February 1918.

Commenced return to Australia on board HS 'Dunluce Castle', 8 April 1918; trannshipped to HS 'Karoola', Suez, 27 April 1918; disembarked Melbourne, 26 May 1918; discharged (wounded), 6 November 1918.
