Military Medal 'Is recommended for conspicuous gallantry while acting as a Battalion Observer near BROODSEINDE on the 19th October, 1917. During the day word was received that the Brigade on the left reported enemy advancing to the attack. At this time our line was being subjected to a heavy bombardment with H.E. and gas shells. Notwithstanding, Private HART remained at him observation post and furnished frequent reports until the situation was clear. The observation post twice suffered direct hits and shrapnel was bursting over it during the time HART was observing. He has at all times exhibited courage and devotion to duty of the highest order, and his conduct on this occasion calls for strong recommendation.'
