War service: joined 1st Light Horse at Gallipoli, 15 July 1915. Admitted to hospital, Port Said, 24 August 1915 (colic); discharged to Convalescent Camp, Alexandria, 28 August 1915. Rejoined unit at Gallipoli, 13 November 1915. General evacuation from Gallipoli: disembarked Alexandria, 17 December 1915.

Proceeded to join Western Field Force, 14 January 1916. Transferred to Machine Gun Squadron, Romani, Egypt, 21 July 1916. Appointed Lance Corporal, 1 August 1916; Lance Sergeant, 12 February 1917. Admitted to Rest Camp, Port Said, 24 September 1917; rejoined unit, 4 October 1917.

Proceeded to Cadet School, Zeitoun, 1 July 1918. Qualified for commission and appointed 2nd Lieutenant, 1 January 1919. Promoted Lieutenant, 16 March 1919.

Marched into Details Camp from 1st Machine Gun Squadron, 12 May 1919. Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Essex', 13 June 1919; disembarked Sydney, 28 July 1919; discharged, 27 September 1919.
