Military Medal 'He is a Battalion Stretcher Bearer, and during the operations in front of MESSINES 7th to 11th June 1917 he performed his duties under heavy fire in a gallant manner, and showed no regard for his personal safety when his aid was required. He frequently remained in the trenches after his Company had returned to camp assisting the Infantry stretcher bearers in removing wounded. He has repeatedly done this during previous operations, although it was not asked of him.'
