'For conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty. At the attack on WESTHOEK RIDGE on 20th September 197 - he marched on the flank of his Battalion with a compass and helped materially to keep direction during the advance. As Intelligence N.C.O. he gained much valuable information at great personal risk, and at all times volunteered for any dangerous work. He set a splendid example to all.'
