'On 20th July, 1917, near YPRES, Battery position was subjected to heavy shelling, which resulted in six casualties. In spite of the continued shelling Private HALSAM, with utter disregard of his own personal safety, immediately went to their assistance, dressed their wounds, and remained with them until the shelling slackened sufficiently for stretcher bearers to convey them to the Dressing Station.'
