Meritorious Service Medal 'This man was assisting in preparation of incendiary shells near LA HOUSSOYE on the 21st May, 1918, when he noticed that one of the shells in the prepared dump was smouldering. With a fine disregard to personal danger he promptly rushed to the dump and threw the shell away. It exploded before the shell stuck the ground. But for his quick and courageous action the lives of the whole detachment would have been in imminent danger.
