Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and resource. When the enemy attacked his company, penetrating the line, he reorganised his platoon, and held a defensive position under heavy fire. Later, he went out with a patrol and reconnoitred the ground occupied by the enemy, and was of great assistance in restoring the line. His coolness and prompt action in a difficult situation were an example to all.'
