'At CHUIGNES, FRANCE, for period 22nd/26th August, 1918 for conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty. He was constantly engaged on patrol work, and displayed great courage and skill in locating enemy positions. His work laid the foundation for a speedy advance - without loss - to enemy positions. He was untiring in his efforts to gain information of the enemy, and by his energy, bravery, and devotion to duty, was an example to his comrads.'
