Joined 7th Bn, Tel el Kebir, 20 January 1916. Admitted to 2nd Field Ambulance, 21 January 1916 (mumps); transferred same day to 4th Auxiliary Hospital, Cairo; discharged, 21 February 1916; rejoined Bn, Serapeum, 9 March 1916.

Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 26 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 31 March 1916.

Wounded in action, 22-23 July 1916 (gun shot wound, left thigh); admitted to 2nd Field Ambulance, 23 July 1916; transferred to 44th Casualty Clearing Station, 25 July 1916; 11th General Hospital, Rouen, 26 July 1917; to England, 27 July 1916, and admitted to Graylingwell War Hospital, Chichester, 28 July 1916; transferred to No 1 Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 26 August 1916.

Commenced return to Australia from Portland on board HT 'Ajana', 17 October 1916; disembarked ; discharged, Melbourne (medically unfit), 31 January 1917.
